MY (BELOVED) MOVIES

The cinema is made to be loved, necessarily. It’s the vehicle for great emotions, the instrument through which the dreams are heightened, visions that were only imaginable come to life. The cinema is an instrument through which we can draw the future.

In the cinemas a poster is the first visible link between the audience and the movie. Every graphic designer strives to make one that can stick in the minds of the public so much that they’d want to hang it in their bedrooms as a memory of that night spent at the cinema. The poster is a symbol, the communication tool that the designer can consider a point of arrival, a little, yet big consecration in the world’s eyes.

Since no one has ever asked me to design a movie poster, I’ve decided to prove myself creating a series of posters of my favorite movies… enjoy!

The Blues Brothers, an orange poster on which two black figures stand out: the sunglasses of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. On the bottom the cast and the production are written in orange on a dark background.
Chocolat, a poster with a warm brown background with a chocolate cangaroo bitten on one side in the centre. Below that there is the writing “Chocolat, sinfully delicious” while on the bottom there are the names of production and the logos of the producers.
Eyes Wide Shut, the latest masterpiece of Kubrick. Purplish red background, at the top there are three small words in capital letters “Cruise, Kidman, Kubrick”. In the centre a black silhouette of a naked Nicole Kidman from the back casting a shadow on which the writing “Eyes Wide Shut” appears. In the bottom part of the poster, always in black, are the names of production and the logos of the producers.
Forrest Gump, my favorite movie ever. Blue background, a simple feather in the centre, the symbol of this cinema masterpiece. Below that there is the writing “Tom Hanks Forrest Gump” in capital letters. In the bottom part of the poster we can find the names of the production crew and the logos of the producers.
Inception, a masterpiece by Cristopher Nolan. Dark blue background, a spinning top in the centre is placed on an imaginary parallelepipedon created by the writing “Inception” which forms the solid's faces. This is to remind of the different distortions of reality which are included in the movie. In the bottom part of the poster there are some names of the production and the logos of the producers.
Jurassic Park, by Steven Spielberg. Background green as a dinosaur, in the centre a glass full of water. The vibrations of the ground create ripples in the water which have the shape of a dinosaur's footprint, and this is a clear reference to one of the most famous scenes of this movie. In the bottom part of the poster there are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
One flew over the cuckoo's nest, with Jack Nicholson at his peak. A purple background with an upside-down brain in the middle which became the cuckoo's nest that is sitting on it. Below this image there is written “One flew over the cuckoo's nest” in capital letters. In the bottom part of the poster appear the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
Racing Extinction, a documentary about the biological risk to which animals were put due to the environmental exploitation made by men. Background black as oil, in the centre a devilfish spreads its wings, almost trying to escape. Underneath it the words “Racing Extinction”. In the bottom part of the poster are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
Rocky IV, the movie of my childhood. Black background, in the centre two boxing gloves to represent the two rival protagonists of the movie: the American glove on the left, from which an eagle emerges and, on the right, the soviet glove from which flaming hammer and sickle appear. In the bottom part of the poster are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
Sleeping beauty, one of the first Disney masterpieces. Teal background, in the centre we can find Maleficent with her characteristic hat with horns, represented from the side with her severe and sensual profile. In the bottom part of the poster are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
The Mask, the move which consecrated Jim Carrey on the international scene. Inevitably a green background, in the centre the Loki's mask, an essential element of the film, which is surrounded by the words “Jim Carrey” and “The Mask”. In the bottom part of the poster are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
The Talented Mr. Ripley. Black background, all the other elements are of a vintage white. In the centre there is the face of Matt Damon, the protagonist of the movie, illuminated on one side and darkened on the other, a clear reference to his double nature which is represented in the movie on several occasions. Underneath that, the title “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. In the bottom part of the poster are the names of the production and the logos of the producers.
40 days and 40 nights. Hills shaped like breasts create a landscape where one can get lost after a lent of total abstinence.
Trainspotting, a fluorescent yellow poster. A man broken in two who comes out from the top and the bottom of the poster. You don't get it? Neither does he.
